Anindya Bakrie Affirms Kadin’s Commitment to Implement ESG for a Sustainable Future at ISF 2025

Jakarta, 10 October 2025 - Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia) Anindya Novyan Bakrie highlighted the critical importance of synergy between businesses, financial institutions, and the government in realizing an inclusive and competitive green economy.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2025 at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC), Anindya affectionately known as Anin emphasized that Kadin Indonesia is fully committed to implementing the green economy agenda, which has become a national and global development priority.

“Kadin Indonesia is committed to driving the green economy—an evolving development paradigm that is now both a national policy direction and a global imperative,” said Anin.

Anin stated that Kadin’s investment decisions are closely aligned with ESG principles (Environmental, Social, and Governance), serving as a framework for assessing sustainability and responsibility in companies, financial institutions, and governments alike.

He further noted that economic development must not solely prioritize profit, but also shared prosperity. Sustainable development, he explained, should be grounded in the 5Ps: Planet, People, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnership.

“Economic development is not just about corporate profit. It is about shared prosperity both now and for future generations. True prosperity is built by safeguarding the planet, empowering people, promoting peace, and forging strong partnerships,” Anin elaborated.

Anin affirmed that this green economic transformation aligns with the national agenda and global commitment to sustainable development.

“In line with the government’s and global sustainability goals, KADIN is transitioning from a profit-centric economic model to one that is more inclusive of environmental and social concerns and collective well-being,” he said.

He also stressed that inclusive growth can only be achieved if all business actors, including micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and cooperatives, move forward together.

“Growth must not only occur at the corporate level, but also among MSMEs and cooperatives. Together, we can create jobs, realize sustainable development, and achieve inclusive economic growth of up to 8%,” Anin concluded.

Meanwhile, Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), emphasized that sustainability should no longer be seen as a burden or additional obligation for businesses. Rather, it must be positioned as the foundation for Indonesia’s long-term economic growth.

“Sustainability is not just about protecting the environment. It's about how we grow—how our economy becomes faster, more efficient, and cleaner. A sustainable economy is one that advances without depleting the very resources that support it. Sustainability is both a moral responsibility and an economic strategy,” Minister AHY stated.

Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM, Rosan P. Roeslani, also delivered remarks highlighting the government's upcoming Waste to Energy (WtE) program, which will be launched in 10 cities during its initial phase. The project has attracted interest from 192 companies worldwide.

“Indonesia holds vast renewable energy potential—nearly 3,700 gigawatts in total. This includes solar (3,294 GW), wind (155 GW), hydropower (95 GW), tidal (63 GW), bioenergy (57 GW), and geothermal (23 GW). However, current utilization remains below 1%, at just 15.2 GW,” Minister Rosan noted.

“This makes Indonesia a highly attractive destination for global investors with the technology and financing capacity to develop large-scale green energy projects,” he added.

The ISF 2025, held from 10–11 October 2025, features plenary sessions, thematic discussions, high-level dialogues, exhibitions, and a science corner showcasing sustainable innovation and research from leading Indonesian universities, including Universitas Indonesia (UI), Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB), Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS), and Gadjah Mada University (UGM).

A highlight of the event was the High-Level CEO Dialogue, hosted by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), and attended by over 30 global CEOs from various industrial, energy, and financial sectors.

Attending the opening were several Kadin Indonesia executives, including Bobby Gafur Umar Vice Chairman for Investment, Downstreaming, Energy, and Environment, Shinta W. Kamdani Vice Chairwoman for Human Development, Culture, and Sustainability, Nita Yudi Vice Chairwoman for Social Affairs, Mulyadi Jayabaya Vice Chairman for Food Security, Juan Permata Adoe Vice Chairman for Export Development.
