Money Turnover During Eid 2024 Predicted to Reach Rp157.3 T

The high number of predicted travellers, which will reach 193.6 million people in 2024, will have an impact on the high potential of money circulation. Assuming the number of people per family is four, there will be at least 48.4 million families going home. If it is assumed that each family brings an average of Rp3,250,000, the money circulation during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijri is estimated to reach Rp157.3 trillion.

"This number still has the potential to rise because we multiply the minimum or moderate numbers. The money turnover will spread across various business sectors, such as retail, fashion, food and beverages, fuel, land transportation, sea transportation, and air transportation," said Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) for Regional Autonomy Development, Sarman Simanjorang, in a written statement (4/4/2024).

Sarman said, the turnover of money during Eid also had an effect on the tourism sector, such as hotels, motels, villas, restaurants, cafes, mini markets, various stalls / shops, tourist destinations / amusement parks, regional speciality food SMEs, and various other superior products.

Sarman also explained that the money circulation will spread throughout the country, especially in areas that are the main destinations for mudik, such as Central Java, East Java, West Java, Yogyakarta, Banten, and Jabodetabek. Accumulatively, the population of these areas is estimated to reach 62 per cent of the total population of Indonesia.

"The rest will be spread across Sumatra, Kalimantan, Bali/NTB, Sulawesi, NTT, Maluku and Papua," said Sarman.

With such a large turnover of money, the regional economy and household consumption will also be pushed up.

On the other hand, the turnover of money during the Lebaran holidays and homecoming is also significant to boost national economic growth in the first quarter of 2024. This will be the initial capital to achieve the 2024 economic growth target, which is to stay at 5 per cent.

"It is hoped that the Regional Government can help smooth the flow of homecoming and ensure that entrepreneurs in destination areas do not raise high prices that make travellers reluctant to spend," concluded Sarman.
