Anindya Bakrie Urges Global Investors to Explore North Maluku, Kadin Pledges More Inclusive Investment

Ternate – Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia), Anindya Novyan Bakrie, officially inaugurated the Executive Board of Kadin North Maluku Province for the 2026–2031 term during a ceremony held at Bella Hotel Ternate, North Maluku, on Saturday (July 25, 2026).

In his remarks, Anindya, popularly known as Anin, affirmed Kadin Indonesia's commitment to promoting North Maluku's investment potential in every engagement with domestic and international investors in order to attract greater capital inflows to the province.

"I will certainly encourage every investor we meet, both at home and abroad, to seriously consider investing in North Maluku," Anin said.

According to Anin, North Maluku's competitiveness is currently underpinned by the strongest economic growth in Indonesia. During the first half of 2026, the province recorded 19.64 percent year-on-year (YoY) economic growth, significantly outperforming the national growth rate of 5.61 percent.

"I believe all of this reflects the province's tremendous investment potential," Anin said.

He added that the province's strong economic performance provides a solid foundation for both the regional government and the business community to offer more competitive investment opportunities. While investment liquidity remains available at both the national and regional levels, the next challenge is ensuring that investment proposals are attractive, commercially viable, and provide certainty for prospective investors.

"Liquidity is available both at the central and regional levels. What we need to ensure together with Kadin North Maluku is that our investment proposals are compelling. And we have already demonstrated that this can be achieved," Anin said.

Anin noted that strong international investor interest in North Maluku is reflected in foreign direct investment (FDI) realization of Rp357 trillion. Nearly 18 percent of China's total investment in Indonesia is now directed to North Maluku, underscoring the province's position as one of the country's leading destinations for natural resource-based and downstream industrial investment.

Nevertheless, Anin stressed that the success of attracting investment should not be measured solely by the value of capital inflows. The next priority, he said, is to ensure that investment generates broader economic benefits that are shared more widely by local communities and businesses.

"The key is ensuring that investment continues to grow while becoming more inclusive, so that its benefits are genuinely felt by the people of North Maluku," Anin said.

Meanwhile, Governor of North Maluku Sherly Tjoanda reaffirmed the provincial government's commitment to building a stronger partnership with Kadin Indonesia to foster high-quality, inclusive economic growth that delivers tangible benefits to local communities.

"North Maluku has clearly demonstrated that it is one of Indonesia's largest investment destinations, with investment valued at tens of billions of U.S. dollars. However, our greatest challenge today is ensuring that this remarkable economic growth reaches local MSMEs and supporting industries," Sherly said.

Sherly explained that rapid industrial expansion in North Maluku has also created growing demand for infrastructure and supply chain development. She cited Central Halmahera, where the growth of industrial estates has driven the population from around 30,000 to 100,000, significantly increasing demand for logistics, food supplies, and housing.

"Approximately 95 percent of retail goods are still supplied from outside North Maluku. While this is a challenge for the government, it also represents a golden investment opportunity for Kadin members. The supply of eggs, poultry, vegetables, and inter-island logistics remains a highly promising real-sector opportunity," she added.

Sherly therefore encouraged Kadin North Maluku to focus on delivering tangible outcomes by expanding access to financing, improving human resource capacity, and providing business mentoring for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).

"Focus on outputs and impact rather than ceremonies. When Kadin members move up the value chain and become more profitable, the region will become more prosperous and peaceful," Sherly emphasized.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Kadin North Maluku Muksin Thalib expressed his commitment to positioning the organization as a strategic partner of the North Maluku Provincial Government under Governor Sherly's leadership.

"We are ready to become the driving force of the regional economy by uniting the local business community and fully supporting the North Maluku Provincial Government's strategic programs toward a stronger and more prosperous North Maluku," he said.

The inauguration was also attended by Kadin Indonesia Coordinating Vice Chairman for Foreign Affairs James T. Riady; Coordinating Vice Chairman for Legal and Human Rights, and Infrastructure M. Azis Syamsuddin; Vice Chairman for Organization Taufan Eko Nugroho Rotorasiko; Vice Chairman for Membership Widiyanto Saputro; Vice Chairman for Kalimantan Region Andi Yuslim Patawari; and Vice Chairman for Regional Autonomy Sarman Simanjorang.
