Meeting with the Ambassador of Chile, Kadin Focuses on the Potential Import of Live Livestock for the MBG Program

Jakarta – Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Anindya Novyan Bakrie, received a visit from the Ambassador of the Republic of Chile to Indonesia, Mario Ignacio Artaza Loyola, at Menara Kadin Indonesia on Thursday (April 23, 2026). The meeting discussed strengthening trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.

Anindya, commonly known as Anin, views Chile as a strategic partner, particularly as it is already a member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Anin said Chile’s experience could serve as a reference for Indonesia in its OECD accession process, especially in improving investment.

“Chile is very interesting because it has joined the OECD. This means there are benefits, particularly in terms of investment, as OECD countries tend to uphold higher investment standards. This gives us the opportunity to attract more of the investment we need, which in turn supports job creation and other sectors,” Anin said after the meeting.

He added that Indonesia and Chile are both members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and have already established the Indonesia–Chile Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IC-CEPA), which should continue to be optimized.

“We have had the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement since 2017, which we want to further enhance. We export a lot of automotive components and footwear, and in return we import many agricultural products. We are also working on importing live cattle to support milk supply and protein needs for the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program,” Anin explained.

Meanwhile, the Ambassador of Chile to Indonesia, Mario Ignacio Artaza Loyola, expressed optimism about strengthening economic relations between the two countries, both in trade and investment.

“We want to strengthen existing cooperation and promote more active trade going forward,” he said.

He also highlighted growing investment opportunities, including in the industrial and downstream sectors.

“There is significant room for investment from Chile to Indonesia and vice versa. The downstreaming process is also very promising for joint development,” Mario noted.

According to him, amid increasingly intense global competition, collaboration between the two countries is key to unlocking new opportunities across various sectors.

“We are living in a time when we need to work together to identify new opportunities in trade, investment, and knowledge,” he concluded.
