Jakarta – The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) held a National Webinar titled “Technology-Based Protection and Development of MSMEs” to commemorate International MSME Day. The event took place virtually via Zoom on Saturday evening (27/06/2026).

Nurdin Halid, Kadin Indonesia’s Deputy Chairperson (WKU) Coordinator for Cooperatives and MSMEs, emphasized that Indonesia’s progress toward becoming a developed nation heavily relies on the ability of micro-businesses to scale up into small and medium enterprises.

According to him, Kadin, as a strategic partner of the government, carries two main missions: the protection and the development of MSMEs.

"First is the protection aspect. How do we ensure that 64.2 million MSMEs can survive amidst fair competition in the free market era? Second is the development aspect, which entails pushing MSMEs to enhance their capabilities, expand markets, strengthen technology, and ultimately upgrade their business scale," Nurdin stated.

Nurdin explained that the roadmap to achieve these two missions is clear, as the key challenges facing MSMEs have been identified—ranging from limited access to capital, technology, and quality human resources, to product standards and market access.

He also added that leveraging technology is a crucial approach to accelerating MSME transformation, as it expands access to digital payment systems and financial services.

"Therefore, to capitalize on the space and opportunities in securing resource allocation, technology must be one of our primary approaches," he said.

Furthermore, Nurdin outlined several strategies to protect and develop technology-based MSMEs so they can upgrade their scale.

The first strategy is to strengthen the foundation and digital capacity of MSMEs through collaboration among the government, Kadin, universities, state-owned enterprises (BUMN), tech companies, and financial institutions to provide practical and sustainable training.

"The training spans digital bookkeeping, marketing, inventory management, the use of payment systems, to the utilization of artificial intelligence. Mentorship must be tailored to the maturity level of each business, because the needs of micro-enterprises differ from those of small and medium enterprises," he explained.

The second strategy involves expanding MSME access to technology, financing, and digital infrastructure. He noted that many MSME actors are still unable to utilize technology optimally due to limitations in hardware, service costs, internet connection quality, and low access to digital financing.

The third strategy is building a fair and inclusive digital market ecosystem. Nurdin assessed that it is not enough for MSMEs to merely enter marketplaces; they must also receive guidance in improving product quality, packaging, trademark certification, logistics, promotion, and customer service to remain sustainably competitive.

"The fourth strategy is strengthening legal protection and digital security for MSMEs. MSME players must receive education and assistance regarding transaction security, personal data protection, intellectual property rights, electronic contracts, and securing digital payment systems. At the same time, the state needs to ensure easily accessible complaint channels, swift responses to cybercrimes, and law enforcement that provides legal certainty," Nurdin elaborated.

Meanwhile, Raden Tedy, Kadin Indonesia's Deputy Chairperson (WKU) for MSME Entrepreneurship, remarked that the commemoration of International MSME Day serves as momentum to reinforce the role of MSMEs as the foundation of an inclusive and sustainable economy.

Tedy explained that the webinar had four main objectives. First, to raise awareness among the public and all stakeholders regarding the vital role of MSMEs in the national economy.

"Second, to strengthen collaboration among the government, business sector, academia, communities, financial institutions, and tech providers in creating a progressive and independent MSME ecosystem," Tedy said.

Third, to encourage MSME actors to continuously innovate, improve product quality, expand market access, and utilize digital technology to grow and upgrade their scale. Fourth, to provide a platform of appreciation and motivation for MSME players who have contributed to economic development and community empowerment.

"On this International MSME Day, we hope Indonesian MSMEs become stronger, more creative, innovative, and capable of becoming an integral part of the global economic chain," Raden concluded.

The virtual commemoration was attended by 278 participants, including Kadin Indonesia's Deputy Chairperson (WKU) Coordinator for Law, Human Rights, and Infrastructure, M. Azis Syamsuddin.
