The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry's (Kadin) People's Economic Empowerment Agency (BPEK) seeks to promote sustainable development across Indonesia, especially in frontier villages.
Bambang Brodjonegoro, Head of BPEK at Kadin Indonesia, said that areas with natural resources, cultural heritage and tourism have the potential to be developed through impact investment.
According to him, the implementation of impact investment can benefit the environment and local communities, and can be implemented in various regions in Indonesia because each region offers its own unique potential.
Bambang said that over the past few years, Indonesia has made significant progress in promoting sustainable development and restorative economy. ‘However, this journey is far from over. We are at a critical juncture where the need for sustainable investment is more urgent than ever,’ he said.
To overcome these challenges, Bambang continued, there needs to be a bridge that connects impact drivers such as social entrepreneurs and innovative communities with impact enablers, namely investors, philanthropists, and donors. Kadin is committed to pushing for a future where economic growth does not need to be at the expense of nature or society.
‘Let us work together to ensure that investments not only drive financial returns but also social and environmental impacts,’ Mr Bambang said.
