Kadin DKI Jakarta to Hold Cheap Market in 44 Sub-districts

The DKI Jakarta Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) is collaborating with Kodam Jaya to hold a Ramadan Cheap Market in 44 sub-districts in DKI Jakarta. This is done as an effort to suppress inflation and anticipate the scarcity of basic necessities.

As previously known, Kadin DKI Jakarta has been monitoring prices in a number of markets, since 5 March, and found prices that are still high and depleted stock of goods.

"The buyers complained about the price and stock issues. Kadin DKI understands the difficulties experienced by many Jakartans. Therefore, we initiated a cheap market in a number of locations," said Chairwoman Kadin DKI Jakarta, Diana Dewi, in a statement, in Jakarta, Wednesday (27/3/2024).

In order to succeed the Ramadan Cheap Market event, Kadin DKI is collaborating with Kodam Jaya. It is hoped that through this collaboration, the implementation of the cheap market can run smoothly.

In particular, the DKI Chamber of Commerce met with the Commander of Kodam Jaya Major General (Major General) TNI Mohamad Hasan, at his office, Friday (22/3/2024). Accompanying Diana Dewi were the Chairperson of the Ramadhan Cheap Market Committee, Jan Sembiring and T. Rajagukguk.

"We had an audience with Pangdam Jaya and conveyed the cheap market plan. He welcomed it, especially since it is being organised ahead of Eid al-Fitr, when people need basic necessities," said Diana.

The cheap market, she added, aims to support the National Food Inflation Control Movement and the Cheap Food Movement. "We hope this activity can help ease the people in buying staple food at a cheaper price," she stated.

Diana also requested the Jakarta Provincial Government to increase people's purchasing power through various programmes, such as market operations, increasing stocks in the market, together with the Central Government to set the highest retail price (HET), and conduct direct supervision.
