Kadin Indonesia Emphasises Private-Government Synergy at 2024 Provincial Council Orientation to Achieve 8% Growth Target

The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) is strengthening collaboration between the central government, local governments, and the business world through its involvement in an orientation for 2024 Provincial Legislative Council Members organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs' Human Resource Development Agency (BPSDM). Attended by Provincial DPRD members from across Indonesia, the event aimed to strengthen the understanding of economic policy and create synergy between the central and local governments to face increasingly complex global challenges.

Chairman of Kadin Indonesia, Arsjad Rasjid in his speech emphasised that without strong alignment and collaboration, efforts to improve the national economy will not be optimal. An integrated and coordinated strategy is needed to face increasingly complex global challenges. According to Arsjad, Kadin's involvement in the orientation of the Provincial DPRD is not just a normative effort, but a strategic step to strengthen collaboration between the government and the business world. Through the presentation of the Whitepaper ‘Proposed Economic Development Strategy / Direction 2024-2029’ to orientation participants, Kadin seeks to create stronger synergies at all levels of government.

‘Kadin's initiative in this orientation is an important step to ensure alignment between all components of the government, from the executive, legislative, to the judiciary, as well as strengthening the synergy between the government and the business world at all levels. This is important to support the government in achieving the 8% economic growth target set by the President and Vice President-elect, Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka, as part of the big vision of the Golden Indonesia 2045,’ said Arsjad.

The Whitepaper ‘Proposed Economic Development Strategy / Direction 2024-2029’ is designed to direct Indonesia's economic development over the next five years with a focus on four main areas, including National Resilience covering food, energy, and water; Welfare Improvement through the development of economic sectors that have high growth potential; Inclusive Human Resource Development to ensure that all levels of society benefit from development; and Sustainable Development that prioritises a balance between economic growth and environmental preservation. In addition, the document will outline development strategies for sectors such as manufacturing, tourism, and the digital economy, which are considered to have great potential to drive national economic growth.

‘With this approach, Kadin Indonesia is ready to facilitate and encourage stronger alignment and collaboration between the government and the business world. For this reason, I invite all parties to work together to realise a stronger, more inclusive and sustainable economic future for Indonesia,’ concluded Arsjad.

In line with Arsjad, Senior Economist and Deputy Head of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Monetary Board, Dr Aviliani, revealed that the 8% economic growth promoted by the next government might be achieved. ‘Indonesia has achieved 8% economic growth five times since 1965, namely in 1968, 1973, 1977, 1979, and 1995. So, 8% economic growth is very possible with Indonesia's main strength as a country with a variety of natural resources, including new and renewable natural resources,’ said Aviliani.

Aviliani emphasised that economic growth of 8% can be achieved if there is collaboration between the government and the private sector through increasing economic sectors that absorb labour and are able to increase middle-class incomes, as well as empowering MSME players. Therefore, she welcomed the Whitepaper prepared by Kadin Indonesia as a strategic step to harmonise the economic vision between the business world and the government. ‘I appreciate Kadin Indonesia's initiative in preparing this Whitepaper. By advocating the challenges of the private sector and providing guidance for the government, this document is expected to strengthen synergy and help achieve the national economic growth target of 8%,’ said Aviliani.

On this occasion, Kadin Indonesia also announced that it is preparing Kadinpedia.ai, an AI chatbot platform to facilitate state apparatus and businesses in accessing information and policy references. This platform allows users to get quick answers related to regulations, industry challenges, and economic development initiatives, as well as see examples of best practices from within and outside the country.

For information, the orientation activities organised by BPSDM KementKemendagri) began on 5 September in Jakarta and will continue on 11-12 September, with additional sessions until November. the activities feature presentations from experts, interactive discussions, and discussion of collaborative strategies to ensure economic policies can be implemented effectively at all levels of government.
