Kadin Highlights Global Uncertainty, Urges Businesses to Adapt and Strengthen Domestic Market

Jakarta - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia), through its International Affairs Division, once again held the Economic & Diplomacy Breakfast Meeting titled “Eid al-Fitr Halal Bihalal Gathering” at Lippo Mall Nusantara, Jakarta, on Friday (April 10, 2026).

On the occasion, Coordinating Vice Chairman for International Affairs of Kadin Indonesia, James T. Riady, highlighted increasingly uncertain global dynamics, which require businesses to be more adaptive.

“We will continue to face disruptions that are becoming more frequent over time. This has become the new normal. Therefore, we must learn how to respond wisely and adapt effectively to the evolving global situation,” James said after the event.

He added that despite short-term challenges, Indonesia’s medium- and long-term prospects remain very strong, particularly amid the shift of the global economic center from the Atlantic to the Pacific.

“In the Pacific region, this includes the United States, China, and Indonesia,” he explained.

According to him, Indonesia’s geographical position provides a strategic advantage in international trade.

“Indonesia has an extraordinary geographic position. From west to east, it takes about seven hours by plane. This means that a significant portion of international trade routes passes through Indonesia,” James said.

He also emphasized that although global conditions remain volatile in the short term, the government’s measures are considered appropriate in maintaining stability.

“We believe Indonesia’s medium- and long-term outlook remains very strong. In the short term, we will observe global developments and adjust accordingly, while the government has taken what I consider to be appropriate measures to stabilize the current situation,” he stated.

James further stressed the importance of business adaptability in responding to continuously evolving global dynamics.

“One crucial factor for companies is their ability to respond to a global environment that continues to evolve dynamically,” he said.

He also warned that global pressures such as inflation and rising interest rates are inevitable challenges.

“Global inflation will certainly increase, and the era of low interest rates is becoming increasingly difficult,” he noted.

In this context, he encouraged businesses to optimize sectors that are more resilient to volatility, particularly the domestic market.

“That is why we must seek opportunities that are anti-inflation and counter-cyclical, namely the domestic market. Domestic consumption must be strengthened,” he explained.

He also pointed out that several government programs focused on boosting domestic consumption are strategic steps.

“Several presidential initiatives are very important. For example, the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program is crucial as it supports domestic consumption. Housing is also very important, as well as domestic tourism. These are some of the government’s initiatives, and I believe they are very positive,” he concluded.

Also present at the event were Kadin Indonesia Vice Chairman for Multilateral Diplomacy Andi Anzhar Cakra Wijaya; Vice Chairman for Strategic Infrastructure Development, Rural Development, and Transmigration Thomas Jusman; Vice Chairwoman for Marketing, Promotion, Innovation, and MSME Product Development Rifda Ammarina; Vice Chairman for Inter-Institutional and Regional Government Relations Junaidi Elvis; members of Kadin Indonesia’s Bilateral Committees; and members of the Permanent Committee for International Affairs.

Also in attendance were Chairman of Kadin Aceh Muhammad Iqbal Piyeung, Chairman of Kadin West Sumatra Buchari Bachter, Chairman of Kadin Bangka Belitung Ritchie Glen Yapranadi, and Chairman of Kadin Central Sulawesi M. Nur Rahmatu.
