The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), a partner of the USAID Urban Community for Resilient Action (KUAT) programme, held a seminar entitled Disaster Emergency Supply and Logistics in Indonesia at Menara Kadin, Jalan Rasuna Said, Jakarta, Friday (3/5/2024).
The seminar was attended by 30 participants from various institutions, government agencies, the business world, BNPB, BPBD, Consortium members and implementing partners of the KUAT programme, the Indonesian Red Cross, as well as practitioners and disaster activists.
Suryani Motik, Deputy Chairperson of Kadin for Social Affairs and Disaster Management, said that Indonesia's geographical position in the Ring of Fire and Alpide Belt resulted in high vulnerability to natural disasters.
"With an average of 1,000 earthquakes per year and various other disasters, Indonesia is faced with the daunting task of managing adequate emergency supplies," said Suryani.
According to her, an in-depth understanding of the business potential, frameworks and best practices in emergency supply production and logistics is essential to ensure effective preparedness.
The seminar also discussed regulatory policies and related initiatives presented by the Deputy of Logistics and Equipment of BNPB, as well as the role of the business world in dealing with disaster emergencies by the Director of PT Indofood Sukses Makmur, the Chairman of the Association of Food and Beverage Producers (GAPPMI), the Distributor Association - Indomaret & Alfamart, and the Deputy Project Director of USAID's Sector Engagement Lead, among others.
The seminar was held to provide an overview of the emergency supplies market in Indonesia, including market size, growth potential, and key players. It also provided information on best practices and successful business case studies in the emergency supply sector in Indonesia, and discussed the regulatory and policy frameworks impacting the emergency market in Indonesia.
In this regard, the Chairperson of the West Java Nahdlatul Ulama Disaster Management and Climate Change Institute (LPBINU), Dadang Sudardja, who participated in this event, appreciated the holding of this seminar. According to him, the information discussed is very important considering that Indonesia often still experiences difficulties in distributing logistics when a disaster occurs.
