Kadin Highlights Business Certainty and Economic Resilience Amid Global Geoeconomic Turbulence

Jakarta – The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia), through its Political and Security Affairs Division, held a National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas) under the theme “Strengthening Economic Resilience, Business Security and the Defense Industry to Ensure Certainty, Self-Reliance and National Economic Competitiveness” at Menara Kadin Indonesia on Wednesday (September 30, 2026).

Kadin Indonesia Chairman Anindya Novyan Bakrie, who attended the event virtually through a recorded video message, highlighted three key areas that businesses and the government need to strengthen in facing increasingly complex global geoeconomic turbulence.

The three areas are business certainty, strengthening the defense industry as a driver of economic growth, and economic resilience as an integral part of national resilience.

“Unresolved wars in various regions, disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as trade wars and technology embargoes show one thing: today’s geopolitical challenges have evolved into geoeconomic challenges,” said Anin, as he is commonly known.

Anin said the impact of global turbulence has been felt domestically, including through higher energy and logistics costs and pressure on the exchange rate. He noted that Brent crude oil prices had risen by as much as 73.8 percent compared with pre-war levels. Meanwhile, logistics costs from Asia to Europe had increased by up to 70 percent, while the US dollar strengthened against the rupiah by 10–12 percent.

According to Anin, these conditions have put pressure on the supply chains of Indonesian businesses, ranging from large corporations to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

“That is why, for the business community today, politics and security are the most important foundations for our business environment,” Anin said.

Anin identified business certainty as the first key. Investors need legal certainty, licensing certainty, land security, and policy alignment between the central and regional governments.

“In a world full of uncertainty, we must strive to ensure legal certainty, secure licensing and policies, as well as safety and comfort in doing business,” Anin said.

The second key is to position the defense industry as one of the drivers of the national economy. Strengthening the defense industry is in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s efforts to build defense self-reliance while strengthening domestic industries.

Anin said that greater synergy between state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and the private sector, increased local content, and a clear investment mechanism could enable defense spending to generate broader benefits for national industries.

“We can learn from countries such as Türkiye and India, which have defense industries worth more than US$20 billion and very high local content. This has an impact not only on the national economy but also on defense self-reliance,” Anin said.

The third key is strengthening economic resilience as part of national resilience. Anin said food, energy, and digital resilience, including cybersecurity and data sovereignty, now have strategic importance comparable to military strength.

“And the world must always have economic strength, including industries, services and trade that are connected to national resilience,” Anin said.

Anin explained that national resilience begins with a strong economy, supported by a secure business environment and realized through a sovereign defense industry.

“This is where Kadin comes in as a strategic partner of the government to make this a reality,” Anin said.

Meanwhile, Kadin Indonesia Coordinating Deputy Chairman for Political and Security Affairs Bambang Soesatyo said legal certainty is an important factor in maintaining economic stability. The business community needs both certainty and legal protection to ensure that investment and business activities can continue sustainably.

He said economic issues cannot be separated from political, legal, and security conditions, as the three are interconnected and influence the business climate.

“Politics will become unstable if the law is not properly enforced. Security will also not be achieved if economic conditions are poor,” he said.

He also called on the Rakornas to go beyond discussions about threats to the business community. The forum, he said, should produce concrete measures to strengthen the capacity and competitiveness of Indonesian companies.

“I hope we will not only talk about threats, but also about improving the capacity and competitiveness of our business community and companies,” he said.

Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago said the government continues to receive input from the business community regarding political and security conditions that may affect economic growth.

He said meetings with Kadin provide input on measures taken by the government to support economic growth and assist the business community.

“Hopefully, going forward, security will become increasingly stable, and businesspeople will be able to continue growing with confidence. When the economy grows well, security will also improve,” Djamari said.

Djamari also emphasized the importance of cooperation between the government and Kadin in maintaining national stability while creating a conducive business climate.

He said the government is open to Kadin’s role in providing input and supporting the creation of conditions that enable businesses to grow properly.

“Certainly. At the same time, we will also ensure that the business environment enables businesses to grow well,” Djamari said.

Also attending the event were Kadin Indonesia Coordinating Deputy Chairman for Export Development Juan Permata Adoe and Deputy Chairman for Organization Taufan Eko Nugroho Rotorasiko.
