Kadin Chairman Urges Business Community to Stay Optimistic in Reviving the Economy Beyond the Shadow of Fear

Jakarta - The business community has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining optimism for the national economy amid global challenges and domestic security issues.

This was conveyed by Anindya Novyan Bakrie, Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), who emphasized the importance of maintaining stability while encouraging cross-sector collaboration.

"First of all, we in the business sector are, of course, concerned, as the current issue revolves around security. And security concerns inevitably influence sentiments in investment and trade. However, secondly, we are also aware that we must remain forward-looking and optimistic in order to revive the economy rather than be overshadowed by fear," said Anindya, commonly known as Anin, during a Luncheon Meeting with the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Airlangga Hartarto, held at the Kadin Tower in Jakarta on Thursday (September 4, 2025).

According to Anin, the current stability of the rupiah exchange rate and capital market serves as an important signal to the international community that economic distribution and activity in the regions remain on track.

In response to the situation, Anin immediately coordinated with the chairpersons of provincial Kadin offices across all 38 provinces to ensure a conducive environment, enabling local governments to focus on strengthening the economy without being burdened by regional revenue (PAD) targets.

“In general, the provincial Kadin offices are focused on carrying out peaceful initiatives to maintain calm,” Anin noted.

Anin also underscored the importance of an inclusive economic collaboration under the "Indonesia Incorporated" concept.

“This must include not only large corporations but also medium enterprises, MSMEs, and cooperatives. We urge the government to engage in dialogue with Kadin at all levels—national, provincial, district/city—as well as with business associations. The objective is clear: we need deregulation,” he stated.

Anin further added that labor market deregulation efforts, which had previously been initiated through a special task force, must be followed up seriously.

“This is crucial. About three months ago, a labor and deregulation task force was launched. Both of these initiatives need to be actively pursued,” Anin explained.

“We at Kadin believe that the programs initiated by President Prabowo Subianto are well-intentioned and are beginning to be implemented. However, we must all support these efforts and work together,” Anin emphasized.

Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto highlighted the need for large businesses to be involved in workforce absorption, particularly through internship programs.

“I’ve proposed that large corporations open up internship opportunities for university graduates who are about to enter the job market. These internships can help absorb part of the new labor force,” said Airlangga.

He also pointed to the tourism sector’s potential, particularly with the reopening of several international airports.

On the other hand, the acceleration of digitalization, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI), is expected to create new job opportunities.

“For data labeling alone, we need around 10,000 workers. This is just one example of the vast potential in the digital sector,” Airlangga added.

The event was also attended by several high-ranking Kadin officials, including Erwin Aksa (Coordinator Vice Chairman for Organization, Communication, and Regional Empowerment), James T. Riady (Coordinator Vice Chairman for Foreign Affairs), Mulyadi Jayabaya (Coordinator Vice Chairman for Food), Carmelita Hartoto (Coordinator Vice Chairman for Infrastructure and Regional Development), Azis Syamsuddin (Coordinator Vice Chairman for Law, Human Rights, and Infrastructure), Bobby Gafur Umar (Coordinator Vice Chairman for Investment, Downstream Industry, Energy, and Environment), Juan Permata Adoe (Coordinator Vice Chairman for Export Development), Benny Soetrisno (Vice Chairman for Association/Member Development), Saleh Husin (Vice Chairman for Industry), and Taufan Eko Nugroho Rotorasiko (Vice Chairman for Organization).
