President Joko Widodo has signed the ratification of Law Number 2 of 2024 concerning the Special Region of Jakarta (DKJ) on 25 April 2024. This law regulates, among others, the transition of the capital city status from Jakarta to the Capital of the Archipelago or IKN.
Article 1 (paragraph 1) of this law states that the Special Region of Jakarta is a provincial area that has specificity in organising government within the framework of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Article 1 paragraph 2 states that the special authority referred to is the authority possessed by the Special Region of Jakarta Province related to the implementation of its function as the National Economic Centre and Global City.
Chair of the DKI Jakarta Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Diana Dewi, assessed that the formation of the DKJ agglomeration area will also have a positive impact on the integration of the development of the Jakarta area and its surroundings.
"Agglomeration will have a positive impact, not only for Jakarta, but also the surrounding areas. Regional integration will facilitate development," said Diana (27/4/2024).
She mentioned that the agglomeration area as mandated by the DKJ Law will later cover the DKJ Province, Bogor Regency, Tangerang Regency, Bekasi Regency, Cianjur Regency, Bogor City, Depok City, Tangerang City, South Tangerang City, and Bekasi City.
Diana said the formation of agglomeration areas can also increase revenue in their respective regions. Thus, other regions in the agglomeration area will also develop and support each other's economy.
According to Diana, DKJ will need a leader who understands the economy to support integrated regional development, especially to encourage investment in various fields.
