Kadin and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Sign MoU, Creative Economy Projected to Become a New Growth Engine

Jakarta – The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and the Ministry of Creative Economy (Ekraf) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen the development of the national creative industry. The collaboration covers training for creative talents, enhancement of the intellectual property (IP) commercialization ecosystem, and expansion of both domestic and global market access.

The signing took place during the pre-event of the 2025 National Leadership Meeting (Rapimnas) of Kadin Indonesia, themed “Creativity 5.0: The Future of Indonesia’s Creative Industry in the AI Era,” held at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Central Jakarta on Sunday (30/11/2025).

This pre-event is part of the broader series leading up to Rapimnas 2025, themed “Kadin Working Together to Expand Job Creation for Indonesia’s Welfare and Self-Reliance,” with the sub-theme “Enhancing Innovation, Productivity, Investment, and Trade: Harnessing Indonesia’s Potential to Achieve Golden Indonesia 2045 and a Prosperous Society.” The main event will be held at the same venue on December 1–2, 2025.

Kadin Indonesia Chairman Anindya Novyan Bakrie emphasized that the creative economy has become a strategic sector with substantial added value and a significant role in job creation. He noted that the creative industry continues to grow rapidly and requires constant adaptation, yet holds tremendous economic potential.

“This industry moves fast and must remain adaptive, but its added value is enormous. As we pursue job creation, this sector is the right place to focus,” said Anindya.

He also highlighted the success of recent local films that broke audience records, such as Jumbo, which surpassed 10 million viewers, and Agak Laen 2, which attracted 1 million viewers within three days. These achievements, he said, reflect the rising strength of Indonesia’s creative sector.

Anindya further noted that Indonesia possesses two major assets poised for development: its creative talent and its tourism potential. He underscored the importance of strengthening intellectual property as the foundation of a modern creative economy.

“Goodwill is intellectual property. If Indonesia can stand on its own feet and build its own IP, it will become a tremendous force,” he added.

Meanwhile, Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Indonesian Creative Economy Agency Teuku Riefky Harsya, in his keynote speech titled “Towards a Creative Ecosystem 5.0: People . IP . Impact,” expressed deep appreciation for Kadin’s commitment. He noted that the creative economy is now recognized globally as “the new mining,” a new engine for future economic growth.

“We truly appreciate this MoU. There will be extensive collaboration between the Ministry and Kadin in 2026,” said Harsya.

He added that the agreement aims to broaden business opportunities, strengthen networks among industry players, and promote value-added downstreaming to ensure direct benefits for creative industry practitioners.

The MoU between Kadin and the Ministry of Creative Economy covers five key areas:

  1. Development of training platforms and competency certification for creative talents.

  2. Strengthening the IP commercialization ecosystem through incubation and expanded investor funding access.

  3. Enhancement of creative industry supply chains.

  4. Expansion of domestic and international market access.

  5. Collaboration on safe, inclusive, and sustainable digital transformation.

Initiated by Kadin Indonesia’s Deputy Chair for Event Management, Ria Yunita, and Head of the Digital Ecosystem Agency, Firlie H. Ganinduto, the event continued with the screening of the AI short film Nusantara, winner of Best AI Documentary at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. The program also featured a panel discussion titled “Fireside Chat: Creative Economy 5.0 – Open Eyes, Open Future,” the launch of the Kadin AI Academy online training platform initiated by the Kadin Indonesia Institute, and another panel discussion on “Synergy of Startups, AI Policy, and IP Tokenization in Building a Competitive Creative Economy Ecosystem.”

The series of pre-event activities began earlier in the day with a Fun Walk hosted by Kadin DKI Jakarta in celebration of the anniversary of Kadin DKI. In the evening, the program continued with the Forum of Provincial Kadin Chairpersons, attended by Kadin Indonesia Chairman Anindya Bakrie, held in parallel with the Forum of Kadin Executive Directors from across the country.
