Ticket Price Surge During Disasters in Aceh, Kadin Coordinates with INACA to Maintain Affordable Fares

Jakarta – The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia) has raised concerns over reports of soaring airfares at Rembele Airport in Bener Meriah Regency, Aceh Province, where ticket prices for the Bener Meriah–Banda Aceh route reportedly reached up to Rp8 million during the recent floods and landslides that struck Aceh Tenggara, Aceh Tengah, and Bener Meriah.

Kadin Indonesia’s Coordinator for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Carmelita Hartoto, stressed that ensuring smooth mobility for affected communities and humanitarian services must remain a top priority for all stakeholders.

“We express our concern regarding reports of airfare hikes on several routes in areas impacted by floods and landslides in Aceh. During a disaster emergency, the movement of residents, volunteers, logistics, and medical personnel must be safeguarded and prioritized by all stakeholders,” Carmelita said on Wednesday (03/12/2025).

Carmelita emphasized that maintaining affordable airfare is essential, especially when mobility needs increase significantly.

“For this reason, all parties must work together to ensure that air transport services remain accessible and affordable for all segments of society,” she added.

According to Carmelita, Kadin Indonesia is currently monitoring developments in airfare dynamics in Aceh. Field information will continue to be updated through coordination with Kadin Aceh Province.

“In response to these developments, we will continue monitoring airfare movements in Aceh by receiving direct input from Kadin Aceh,” she stated.

In addition to monitoring, Carmelita noted that Kadin has begun coordinating with aviation industry players. This effort is being carried out through the Indonesia National Air Carriers Association (INACA) to ensure constructive communication with airlines.

“We are working to coordinate with airline operators through INACA. This coordination aims to ensure constructive dialogue so airlines can provide the best possible services to the public during this emergency situation,” Carmelita explained.

Carmelita added that Kadin Indonesia remains committed to supporting recovery efforts in the affected regions. This commitment includes ensuring the smooth movement of residents, volunteers, medical personnel, and logistics distribution, not only in Aceh but also in North Sumatra and West Sumatra.

“Kadin Indonesia is committed to supporting efforts to accelerate recovery in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra,” she concluded.
