Jakarta – The national movement “Healthy and Empowered Indonesian Women: Indonesian Women Courageously Fighting Cancer” was successfully held on Friday, August 7, 2026, at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Auditorium in South Jakarta.

The event marked an important milestone, bringing together the commitment of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia), the Indonesian Women Entrepreneurs Association (IWAPI), and Siloam International Hospitals (Siloam) through the SELANGKAH program (SEmangat LAwan KAnker, or “Spirit to Fight Cancer”).

The presence of Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Chairman of Kadin Indonesia Anindya Novyan Bakrie, Chairwoman of the Central Executive Board of IWAPI Nita Yudi, and President Director of PT Siloam International Hospitals Tbk David Utama underscored that women’s health has become a strategic national priority.

The leaders brought together government policy, the strength of the business community, the network of women entrepreneurs, and professional healthcare services in a concrete movement to expand access to early breast cancer detection for Indonesian women — a swift, smart, and impactful step toward building a healthy, productive, and competitive society.

Participation Exceeds Target

The on-site SELANGKAH breast ultrasound screening at the Ministry of Health auditorium initially targeted 100 participants. However, strong participation from IWAPI members, as well as women from communities reached through IWAPI’s network, pushed attendance well beyond the target, with more than 250 women attending and expressing their readiness to undergo breast cancer screening.

Of these participants, more than 100 women received screening services during the event, while the remaining participants will continue their screening through in-house services at Siloam units across various regions, subject to scheduling and service availability.

IWAPI supported participant data collection, mobilization, information dissemination, registration facilitation, and follow-up coordination through its provincial and district/city-level branches across Indonesia. As a result, the movement does not stop as a ceremonial event, but continues as a tangible, measurable healthcare service reaching communities across the country.

The Role and Strength of Collaboration

The presence of Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening breast cancer prevention and early detection efforts.

The Ministry of Health plays a role in providing national health policy direction, strengthening public education, and promoting broader access to preventive healthcare services for Indonesian women.

“Early detection must become a shared habit and awareness. The earlier examinations are conducted, the greater the opportunity for women to receive appropriate treatment. This collaboration is important to expand access to screening and increase awareness of women’s health in various regions,” said Budi Gunadi Sadikin.

Chairman of Kadin Indonesia Anindya Novyan Bakrie emphasized the role of the business community as an important part of the solution to public health challenges. Leveraging its extensive network of business players, industries, business associations, and strategic partners at both national and regional levels, Kadin Indonesia is encouraging women’s health to become part of the national productivity, MSME development, and economic growth agenda.

“Women’s health is an investment in the nation. When women are healthy, they can continue to contribute, develop businesses, create jobs, and strengthen both household and national economies. Kadin Indonesia is ready to mobilize the business community as part of the solution to public health challenges,” said Anindya, who is popularly known as Anin.

As an Extraordinary Member (ALB) of Kadin Indonesia, IWAPI plays a role in connecting this national movement with women entrepreneurs and MSME communities across the regions. With a network spanning 34 provinces and more than 400 branches at the regency and city levels, IWAPI has the organizational strength to mobilize participants, collect data, facilitate registration, and oversee follow-up services nationwide.

Chairwoman of the Central Executive Board of IWAPI Nita Yudi emphasized IWAPI’s readiness to serve as a government health ambassador through its nationwide network of Indonesian women entrepreneurs.

“In a short period of time, IWAPI has demonstrated that we are capable of working swiftly, intelligently, and with national impact. Representatives from Papua, Sulawesi, Bogor Regency, as well as IWAPI provincial boards from across Indonesia, participated both in person and online to support this movement,” said Nita Yudi.

“The Ministry of Health strengthens health policy direction, KADIN Indonesia mobilizes support from the business community, Siloam provides medical services, and IWAPI ensures that information and access to screening can reach women in communities across the regions. This is the kind of concrete action that must continue to be expanded,” she added.

President Director of PT Siloam International Hospitals Tbk David Utama emphasized Siloam’s commitment to providing professional, accessible, and sustainable medical services for Indonesian women. Through the SELANGKAH program, Siloam provides medical personnel, ultrasound and mammography examinations, as well as referral mechanisms for participants who require further examinations. Siloam’s strength lies in its healthcare service capacity and hospital network across various provinces, enabling the screening program to continue through in-house services following the main event.

“Collaboration with the Ministry of Health, KADIN Indonesia, and IWAPI is a strategic step to reach more women quickly, appropriately, and in a well-directed manner. Siloam is committed to ensuring that participants have access to early screening and the necessary follow-up services,” said David Utama.

Through 34 Siloam units, the program targets providing free breast cancer screening services to approximately 7,000 women from July to December 2026.

Deputy Chairman for Health Affairs of the Central Executive Board of IWAPI Maika Nurhayati emphasized that the movement represents a concrete manifestation of pentahelix collaboration, bringing together the government, business community, women’s organizations, healthcare facilities, media, and the public toward a common goal.

“When the Minister of Health, Chairman of Kadin, Chairwoman of IWAPI, and President Director of Siloam come together and unite their commitment, the message is very clear: women’s health is a national priority. This collaboration must continue to expand so that its benefits can reach Indonesian women from the center to the most remote areas,” said Maika Nurhayati.
