Jakarta – The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia) held a farewell event titled “A Voyage of Service: Farewell Dinner in Honor of H.E. Andy Rachmianto and Ismi Rohimaningsih” as a tribute to Andy Rachmianto and his wife, at Hotel Aryaduta Menteng on Saturday evening (09/05/2026).
Chairman of Kadin Indonesia, Anindya Novyan Bakrie, stated that the farewell dinner was held in appreciation of Andy Rachmianto’s dedication and contributions during his previous tenure as Director General of Protocol and Consular Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, as well as Chief of State Protocol (19 June 2020 – 13 April 2026).
“When many people hear the word protocol, they may only think of seating arrangements, formalities, and ceremonial procedures. But for those who have worked with Mr. Andy, protocol is far more profound. Protocol is the art of making respect tangible,” said Anin, as he is commonly known.
Anin described Andy Rachmianto as an important figure behind many of Indonesia’s diplomatic successes on the international stage, despite often working away from the public spotlight.
“There are people whose work is so important that when they do it well, most people barely notice. They are not the loudest people in the room, nor do they seek attention, but when they are present, everything runs smoothly, relationships grow stronger, and Indonesia stands taller. And that is Mr. Andy Rachmianto,” Anin remarked, drawing applause from the invited guests.
Anin said Kadin Indonesia had the opportunity to work closely with Andy Rachmianto in various major international agendas, ranging from the World Economic Forum in Davos to a number of state visits and business forums in Europe and Japan.
“On every occasion, Mr. Andy helped Indonesia engage with the world with confidence and credibility,” Anin emphasized.
He also stressed that Andy Rachmianto’s new assignment as Indonesia’s Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg, and the European Union is a strategic position amid a new chapter in Indonesia–Europe relations.
“I cannot imagine anyone more suited for this important role. Mr. Andy is not only a professional, but also a warm, calm, and highly principled individual,” Anin said.
On the same occasion, Coordinating Vice Chairman for Foreign Affairs of Kadin Indonesia, James T. Riady, said diplomacy is often understood merely as ceremonies and protocol, even though immense pressure behind the scenes requires the highest level of precision.
“Many people see state ceremonies, motorcades, gala dinners, and diplomatic handshakes. But very few see the pressure behind it all. A single minor mistake in protocol order or travel arrangements can become a diplomatic issue,” he said.
According to him, Andy Rachmianto has consistently carried out those responsibilities with composure and professionalism.
“The best protocol officers are like referees in a football match. If no one notices your presence, it means you have done your job exceptionally well. And Mr. Andy has done an extraordinary job for Indonesia for many years,” he stated.
James also described Andy Rachmianto as not only a capable diplomat, but also someone who is able to build trust and friendship.
“Indonesia is not merely sending a diplomat to Europe. Indonesia is sending someone who genuinely has heart and understands how to build relationships,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Andy Rachmianto expressed his gratitude for the appreciation and support provided by Kadin Indonesia throughout his tenure as Director General of Protocol and Consular Affairs and Chief of State Protocol.
“This journey of service has indeed been a long one. For nearly six years, I served as Director General of Protocol and Consular Affairs as well as Chief of State Protocol, serving two Presidents with different leadership styles,” he said.
He noted that throughout his service, the government could not work alone in achieving Indonesia’s foreign policy objectives and required the support of strategic partners, including Kadin Indonesia.
“In my personal view, Kadin is one of the government’s most important and trusted partners. Kadin has always worked hard alongside us, particularly during various Presidential visits abroad,” he said.
Andy also highlighted that various business and investment forums held on the sidelines of Presidential visits to different countries had generated investment commitments worth billions of US dollars for Indonesia.
As Indonesia’s Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg, and the European Union, Andy said one of his top priorities moving forward would be to advance the completion of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA).
“I believe this will become my main KPI (Key Performance Indicator). Therefore, I will need full support and continued support from Kadin,” concluded Andy, who previously served as Indonesia’s Ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and Palestine from 2017 to 2020.
Also attending the event were several members of Kadin Indonesia’s leadership, including Coordinating Vice Chairman for Investment, Downstream Industry, Energy, and Environment Bobby Gafur Umar; Coordinating Vice Chairwoman for Human Development, Culture, and Sustainable Development Shinta W. Kamdani; Coordinating Vice Chairman for Law, Human Rights, and Infrastructure M. Azis Syamsuddin; and Coordinating Vice Chairman for Export Development Juan Permata Adoe.
Also present were several regional Kadin chairpersons, including Chairman of Kadin Aceh Province Muhammad Iqbal Piyeung, Chairman of Kadin West Sumatra Province Buchari Bachter, Chairman of Kadin South Sumatra Province Affandi Udji, Chairman of Kadin West Nusa Tenggara Province Faurani, Chairman of Kadin Central Sulawesi Province M. Nur Rahmatu, and Chairman of Kadin Papua Province Jacleana Joku.
