Towards Golden Indonesia 2045, Kadin Calls OECD Accession a Strategic Step for the Nation

Jakarta – Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Anindya Novyan Bakrie, reaffirmed the business community’s commitment to supporting Indonesia’s path toward becoming a developed nation through the accession process to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

This was conveyed by Anin, as he is commonly known, during the National Seminar on Indonesia OECD Accession & Private Sector Implications held at the Gran Melia Hotel in South Jakarta on Tuesday (April 21, 2026).

In his remarks, Anin stated that Indonesia has a clear direction to transform from a developing country into a developed one.

“Today, we are directly addressing how Indonesia can move with confidence from a strong emerging economy to a truly advanced nation. Indonesia aspires to become a developed country, and it will achieve that status in the near future,” said Anin.

He added that this ambition is part of the nation’s historical journey and a shared responsibility among all stakeholders. However, he also emphasized the importance of reflecting on the challenges that remain, particularly regarding institutional quality.

“As business actors, we understand that markets value trust, investors value certainty, and ultimately, trust is grounded in institutions,” Anin explained.

According to Anin, the government’s decision to pursue OECD accession is a strategic and appropriate step in supporting Indonesia’s Golden Vision 2045. He noted that Kadin, as an organization established under Law No. 1 of 1987, plays a role in consolidating, guiding, representing, and advocating for the interests of the business community, while also serving as a strategic partner to the government in strengthening the national economy.

“Therefore, Kadin fully supports the OECD accession process as a representation of the institutional voice of Indonesia’s business community,” he said.

On the same occasion, Anin also presented the results of the Kadin Business Pulse Survey. He noted that nearly 50 percent of businesses in Indonesia plan to expand within the next six months, reflecting a relatively high level of optimism.

However, he added that the main challenges currently faced are bureaucracy and regulation, with 20 percent of respondents citing these as the biggest obstacles. Meanwhile, the factors that most enhance business confidence are central government policies (45 percent), followed by fiscal incentives and improved legal certainty.

“OECD accession can help Indonesia strengthen regulatory coherence, improve governance standards, and create a more predictable business environment,” Anin said.

Anin also expressed his appreciation to the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, as well as the support from the UK government in preparing studies related to OECD accession. During the forum, Kadin also received the Private Sector Playbook, which is considered important in strengthening the contribution of the business community to the accession process.

“Ultimately, this is about Indonesia’s national interest. If we work together in the spirit of Indonesia Incorporated, as consistently emphasized by President Prabowo Subianto, then OECD accession will become a real accelerator for Indonesia’s transformation into a developed nation,” Anin concluded.

Also present at the event were Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Kadin Vice Chairman for Organization, Communication, and Regional Empowerment (OKP) Erwin Aksa, Kadin Vice Chairman for Multilateral Diplomacy Andi Anzhar Cakra Wijaya, and the British Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor-Leste, Dominic Jermey.
