Menko Airlangga Tegaskan Peran Strategis Sektor Swasta dalam Percepatan Proses Aksesi Indonesia ke OECD

London, United Kingdom - The Government of Indonesia has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating Indonesia’s accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) as part of the country’s economic transformation agenda toward Indonesia Emas 2045.

The commitment was conveyed by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Airlangga Hartarto, during his keynote remarks at the Kadin Indonesia x Growth Gateway Roundtable: Delivering Growth as Part of Indonesia’s OECD Accession, held at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) London Office on Monday, January 19.

The forum brought together representatives from the Government of Indonesia, the Government of the United Kingdom, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia), and international business leaders to discuss support for accelerating Indonesia’s OECD accession process and its implications for the private sector, particularly within the framework of the OECD Investment Framework.

“OECD accession is not merely a technical process; it is a national strategic priority and a critical foundation for realizing the vision of Indonesia Emas 2045,” Minister Airlangga stated. He emphasized that aligning Indonesia’s policies with OECD standards will strengthen governance, improve regulatory quality, and enhance national economic competitiveness in a sustainable manner, thereby increasing investment and driving economic growth.

Minister Airlangga also expressed his appreciation to the UK Government for its continued support throughout Indonesia’s OECD accession process, as well as to Boston Consulting Group (BCG) for its technical assistance, particularly in supporting the National Team in accelerating Indonesia’s OECD accession.

At the same occasion, British Ambassador to Indonesia Dominic Jermey highlighted the significance of the meeting’s timing, noting that on the following day, the President of the Republic of Indonesia was scheduled to launch the United Kingdom–Indonesia Strategic Partnership. On the same day, Minister Airlangga was also scheduled to sign the Indonesia–United Kingdom Economic Growth Partnership (EGP) as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation.

Also delivering remarks, Chairman of the Advisory Board of Kadin Indonesia, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, underscored that Indonesia’s economy is vast and therefore requires substantial support to achieve higher growth, with OECD accession representing one of the most strategic pathways to achieve this objective. This was echoed by Chairman of Kadin Indonesia, Anindya N. Bakrie, who reaffirmed the strong commitment of Kadin and the private sector in supporting the acceleration of Indonesia’s OECD accession.

During the panel session, Tim Figures, Global Expert on Geopolitics and Trade, shared insights on the successful experiences of various countries in escaping the middle-income trap following their accession to the OECD. In line with this perspective, Vice Chairwoman of Kadin Indonesia, Shinta W. Kamdani, emphasized the importance of sustained private sector support and the need to continuously communicate to the broader business community the significance and positive implications of Indonesia’s OECD accession.

The meeting also marked the official kick-off of private sector engagement in supporting Indonesia’s OECD accession, with support from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and the Growth Gateway Programme. This initiative is expected to serve as a strategic platform to strengthen dialogue and collaboration between the government and the business community in advancing Indonesia’s OECD accession agenda.

“With close collaboration between the Government, the business community, and international partners, Indonesia is optimistic that it can accelerate the OECD accession process to realize the vision of Indonesia Emas 2045, while ensuring inclusive and sustainable economic growth,” Minister Airlangga concluded.

The event was attended by Presidential Special Envoy for Climate and Energy Hashim Djojohadikusumo, Chairman of Kadin Indonesia Anindya Bakrie, Secretary to the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Susiwijono Moegiarso, Deputy for Economic Cooperation and Investment Coordination Edi Prio Pambudi, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the United Kingdom Desra Percaya, British Ambassador to Indonesia Dominic Jermey, representatives from Boston Consulting Group (BCG), and business leaders from various strategic sectors.
